PREGNANCY PLANNING CHECKLIST & DAILY SUPPLEMENTS

11/15/2017

Checklist:
  • Preconception Visit (Blood Panel & Pap smear)
  • Flu Shot
  • DNA Testing + Health (23andMe)
  • Prenatal Vitamins (Zahler Prenatal DHA Vitamins)
  • Basal Thermometer
  • Ovulation/LH Strips
  • Fertility & Period Tracker (Sprout)
  • Ava Bracelet

I had my preconception visit with Dr. Elizabeth Silverman at Scripps La Jolla Memorial in August 2017 and my Pap smear and blood panel was all clear! My blood panel suggested I was a little deficient in Vitamin D but nothing a supplement can't fix. Kyle and I did DNA testing with 23andMe, and I've been taking Zahler Prenatal DHA Vitamins (1000 mcg Folate, 25mg Vitamin B6,  27mg Iron). I was told by my OB that it is important to take vitamins at least one month before you are pregnant, take three months before if possible and its suggestion is to have a vitamin with at least 400mcg of folate. Doctors also suggest to be cautious of too much Vitamin A unless its from beta carotene, so that means no more Retin-A during pregnancy. I've been recording my fertility, ovulation, and period cycles using a Basal Thermometer and Ovulation/LH Strips and tracking it through the Sprout App Fertility & Period Tracker. If you want a faster and easier way to track your fertility, I recommend the Ava Bracelet, it tracks your temperature, breathing rate, heart rate, and sleep. It helps determine your 5 most fertile days to get pregnant . These are some other items I added to my daily regimen before getting pregnant:

  • Peapod Cal-Mag (500 mg Calcium & 200 mg Magnesium)
  • Once Daily Women's Dr. Formulated Probiotics
  • Wheat Grass Tablets
  • Cranberry 1000

My husband Kyle,  also participated in the fertility preparation. He took daily Fertilight Supplement along with his Multivitamins and he isn't a huge fruit and vegetable eater so he took fruit and veggie supplements as well.

It is also very important to get the flu shot during flu season. Before my pregnancy, I actually never had the flu shot before, but your immune system is susceptible to the flu when you are pregnant and because of that, I highly recommend you get one before or during your pregnancy during flu season: CDC Flu Vaccine Safety and Pregnancy.

We drained our hot tub for the year, as sitting in hot water isn't good for healthy sperm or pregnant women. We both work out together at Orange Theory which helps with our exercise routine and helps reduce stress. We want to get the right start on our family and hope this information is helpful on getting the right start for others too.

To learn about our conception timing go to my post on the Shettles Method.

Have any advice on supplements you took that were successful? Please comment below if you would like to add your regimen.
